Conduent Confirms Cybersecurity Incident Impacting Government Services Nationwide

Conduent, a leading business process services provider, has confirmed experiencing a cybersecurity incident that disrupted government services across multiple states. The company, which supports critical government programs including child support and social service systems, revealed that the operational disruption was caused by a targeted cyber incident.

Multiple government agencies, including the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families and Oklahoma Human Services, reported significant service interruptions. The incident primarily impacted electronic payment processing systems, preventing many residents from receiving scheduled support payments through electronic transfers and EBT cards.

A Conduent spokesperson confirmed that the incident response was contained and all systems have been restored. However, the company has been reluctant to provide extensive details about the nature of the attack, including potential data breaches or ransom demands.

This is not the first cybersecurity challenge for Conduent. Four years ago, the company experienced a similar disruption when its European operations were impacted by a ransomware attack. The current incident highlights the ongoing vulnerability of critical government service infrastructure to potential cyber threats.

The widespread nature of the service disruption underscores the significant role Conduent plays in supporting government services nationwide. With over 31,000 employees and services spanning hundreds of government and transportation agencies, any cybersecurity incident can have far-reaching consequences for millions of residents relying on these essential services.

As investigations continue, government agencies and Conduent are working to ensure the integrity of their systems and minimize potential long-term impacts on service delivery.
