German prosecutors have charged three Russian-German nationals with acting as secret service agents for Russia, revealing a complex espionage operation targeting military infrastructure and support systems.
The individuals, identified as Dieter S., Alexander J., and Alex D., are accused of collecting sensitive information and planning potential sabotage actions against German military facilities. Specifically, Dieter S. has been alleged to have extensive involvement in gathering intelligence and preparing potential attack strategies.
According to the Office of the Federal Prosecutor, Dieter S. was in direct contact with a Russian secret service representative and exchanged information about potential sabotage operations in Germany. These actions were particularly aimed at undermining Germany's military support provided to Ukraine during the ongoing conflict with Russia.
The investigation revealed that Dieter S. expressed willingness to conduct explosive attacks on military infrastructure and industrial sites. He also pledged to execute sabotage activities targeting railway lines used for military goods transportation.
As part of his intelligence gathering, Dieter S. collected detailed information about potential targets in Bavaria, including U.S. military facilities, a loading station in Upper Palatinate, and a tool manufacturing company. He was assisted in these efforts by Alexander J. and Alex D., with active operations documented from at least March 2024.
Dieter S. personally scouted several targeted locations, taking photographs and videos of military transports and equipment. The collected intelligence data was subsequently transmitted to his contact within the Russian secret service.
The suspects were initially arrested in April 2024, with Dieter S. remaining in investigative custody. The Federal Prosecutor's Office has now formally filed charges, indicating the serious nature of the alleged espionage activities.
This case underscores the ongoing tensions and intelligence challenges between Russia and Western nations, highlighting the persistent threat of foreign espionage operations.
