Windows 11 Version 24H2 Rollout Hit By Multiple Gaming and Hardware Compatibility Issues

Windows 11 24H2 Update Faces Gaming, Hardware Issues

Microsoft's latest Windows 11 version 24H2 rollout is facing several critical compatibility issues affecting gaming, hardware functionality, and system applications.

The tech giant has confirmed multiple problems with the new operating system version, leading to the implementation of several compatibility holds to safeguard user experience.

One of the most significant issues involves popular Ubisoft games becoming unresponsive or displaying black screens. Affected titles include:

  • Assassin's Creed Valhalla

  • Assassin's Creed Origins

  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey

  • Star Wars Outlaws

  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

"To safeguard your Windows update experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on devices with these games installed," Microsoft stated in its release health documentation. The company has assigned safeguard IDs 54437462 and 54580160 for IT administrators using Windows Update for Business reports.

In addition to gaming issues, users are experiencing problems with USB devices supporting the eSCL scan protocol. The issue primarily affects USB-connected multifunction devices and standalone scanners, where devices fail to switch from eSCL mode to USB mode, preventing proper driver matching.

Hardware compatibility problems extend to certain ASUS laptop models (X415KA and X515KA), which may encounter blue screen errors during the update process. Microsoft has implemented safeguard hold ID 54157480 for affected devices.

The update has also impacted several system functionalities:

  1. Non-administrator users cannot change time zones through Windows Settings

  2. Task Manager displays incorrect process counts

  3. Disk Cleanup tool reports inaccurate available space

  4. Camera functionality issues on devices with object recognition features

For organizations and IT administrators, Microsoft recommends against manual updates using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or media creation tool until these issues are resolved. The company is working with affected software vendors, including Ubisoft and ASUS, to develop solutions.

"We are working on a resolution and will provide more information when it is available," Microsoft noted regarding several of these issues.

Users experiencing problems can report issues through the Feedback Hub app or seek support through the Microsoft Support Community. Organizations can access additional details through the Windows release health section in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

The Windows 11 24H2 update continues its phased rollout, targeting eligible devices running Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2. Users can check their update availability through Windows Update settings.
