How Bard is Different Than ChatGPT?

Now that we’ve discussed what Google’s AI assistant is and its features, let’s discover how Bard differs from ChatGPT.

Sources of Information

Bard gathers information from sources and data already available on the internet. It is powered by search engines and thus has access to the most up-to-date information and provides the most relevant and current information on any query.

Whereas, ChatGPT‘s knowledge is limited to the events through 2021. It learns through its interactions with humans.

Range of Data

Search engines power the reason Microsoft and Bard back ChatGPT; the latter has a plethora of data and has an advantage over ChatGPT.

Accuracy and Depth of Data

Bard takes advantage of Google’s massive data collection and provides more in-depth information on every human query. However, ChatGPT is more prone to making up stories and facts and thus can need more depth in its information.

Clarity of Data

ChatGPT generates content based on a text that humans provide. At the same time, Bard can turn difficult topics into easy-to-understand and clear ways that aid in learning things for everyone, including children.

LaMDA vs GPT

Let’s discover the difference between two of the most dominating and prominent AI architectures: LaMDA and GPT:

What is LaMDA

LaMDA stands for Language model for Dialogue Applications. It is built on Transformer, a neural network architecture launched in 2017. It is trained on dialogues, and during the process, it was trained to differentiate open-ended conversations from other language forms.

It can respond to conversations, give the most sophisticated and relevant answers, and keep the conversation going. It can talk virtually about anything and is trained to produce sensible and specific responses.

However, LaMDA can’t handle problems like math or code generation due to its lack of an advanced processing system that provides greater accuracy.

What is GPT-3?

GPT-3 is a neural network machine learning model that uses internet data to produce text. It needs small input to produce larger volumes of sophisticated and relevant machine-generated text.

It contains around 175 billion machine learning parameters, and as of early 2021, it is one of the most powerful and the largest neural networks ever produced. It uses natural language processing and neural language generation to understand and produce natural human language text.

GPT-3 can be used to:

  1. Create articles, blogs, poetry, stories, dialogues, and news reports, and write social media posts, jokes, recipes, quizzes, memes, comic strips, and more.

  2. Automate everyday tasks; talk with people by responding to the text people type into their computers.

  3. Translate programmatic commands into understandable texts.

  4. Perform sentiment analysis

  5. Find bugs in any existing codes.

  6. Translate text from one language to another.

  7. Perform phishing attacks and perform malicious prompt engineering.

  8. Produce simplified summarizations of long text.

Is Bard the ChatGPT Competitor?

For years, Google has remained one of the most popular search engines worldwide. People turned to Google to search for almost any query they had without even thinking about having a look at any other. However, ChatGPT recently introduced itself into the headlines and greatly competed with Google.

In only less than a week, CHatGPT got over a million users. In February 2023, Google responded to the competition and introduced its own AI chatbot- Google’s Bard

Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, said:

“Bard is an outlet of creativity and can explain complex information in simpler language that even children would understand, it would help you learn new recipes out of ingredients you don’t know what to do, make you learn about the top strikers in football right now, and even drill down into your basic skills.”

This statement shows that Bard certainly has the capabilities that ChatGPT lacks and “can provide fresh and high-quality responses directly drawn from the web,” as stated by Pichai. ChatGPT struggles to provide people with such responses as it is pre-trained and has much to learn through human interaction.

Bottom Line

ChatGPT and Bard are powerful AI chatbots that compete with each other on many features. ChatGPT is based on GPT-3 architecture, while Bard is designed on LaMDA architecture, both having the capabilities to impress the world.

Google’s AI assistant has the power to leave behind ChatGPT as it has the advantage of being integrated into the web and providing new and up-to-date information. ChatGPt is pre-trained and still has a lot of room for development.

However, the choice of ChatGPT vs. Bard depends greatly on your needs. Google’s Bard is the right choice if you want a more conversational AI chatbot to add to their social media platform and manage task automation. At the same time, ChatGPt works best for people looking for an AI to help them in their research work, writing articles or blogs, or summarizations.
